COMMUNITY
Architecture has the great ability to connect people. Community minded structures allow people to engage and share experiences. They are welcoming, vibrant, and safe. They have significant meaning for its users, and radiate their energy into the greater community.
ACCESSIBILITY
Creating an accessible environment is more than just accommodating people of various status and ability. It’s ensuring that everyone is engaged in the community alike. It’s incorporating accessibility from the onset of design so that it is part of the building fabric. It’s retrofitting older buildings eloquently, as well as complimentary to the existing structure.
ADAPTIVE RE-USE
Buildings often require changes to keep pace with shifting demographics and community needs. Done correctly, changes will reaffirm vital spaces. Changes can create practical and valuable spaces from underused areas. Changes can transform spaces while honouring its past.
Principals Janet Harrison and Tan Duong established HDAI in 2016. We have amassed a diverse portfolio that includes institutional, educational, commercial interiors, and residential work. We are pleased to deliver a wide range of services, including architectural design, space planning, and feasibility studies.
For nearly 2 decades, Janet has worked on a wide range of building design, with a heavy focus on institutional projects, primarily religious and educational buildings. Previously, Janet operated the sole practice, Janet L. Harrison, Architect, the forerunner of HDAI.
Sadly, Tan passed away from cancer in 2024. He brought years of experience with multiple award winning firms, and technical acumen with complex projects. His skills extended from commercial interiors to multi-unit residential, and heritage restoration projects. He will be greatly missed.
